Happy 4th! (& the start of sale season)
It’s a gorgeous 4th of July weekend here in New England! Time to put on your favorite summer outfit and go celebrate. Are you struggling with that outfit? You’ve come to the right place.
First off, keep it simple. If you’re struggling with what to wear this weekend to all those summer BBQ’s, just remember to stick to the basics when in doubt. A simple sundress, flip flops and your favorite accessories will get through the weekend. The key to making this “easy” is stocking your closet with piecces you love. So that in a pinch you can grab a tank and shorts or a skirt that you know will look cute. Or throw on that perfect sundress that can be dressed up or down for any occassion.
Do you feel like you have a closet full of clothes that don’t meet these necessary criteria? You’re not alone. There’s a large population that stands in front of their closet full of clothing and feels like they have nothing to wear. If you’re in this camp, it’s time to change the way you shop.
And no time is better than the present. While 4th of July weekend feels like the beginning of summer, it’s also the beginning of the summer sale season. Retailers are ready to rid themselves of summer merchandise and prepare for fall. Which could work in your favor if you know what to look for!
Before you buy, think twice about what you really need and what flatters you! Don’t settle for something that just looks “okay”… search for the item that put a smile on your face when you put it on. If you’re looking for something “trendy”… find the trend that works for you! When in doubt, stear clear of patterns and pick a color that flatters your skintone or a neutral color that will pair will anything.
While you want to take advantage of deep sales, beware of final sales from brands you are unfamiliar with. Not all sizing is the same from one brand to the next. So, unless you are certain about your personal sizing with a brand, it’s best to try clothes on before committing to an item. You only want to purchase items that flatter you and easily combine with the pieces in your wardrobe.
Don’t feel that’s it’s necessary to fill your closet. This is not meant to be a chore. It’s a project that requires time and patience. You build your wardrobe one piece at a time. And you will constantly re-assess to ensure that your closet fills your needs from one season to the next. So take a deep breath and get ready to do the work that will result in a wardrobe that you love!
